How Has Social Media Influenced You?
As I was going through my Twitter feed this morning (that’s funny, the Twitter logo is a bird and the timeline is called a “feed”) and read an update by @chrisbrogan. He was saying that he was excited to be flying Jet Blue Airlines. (@jetblue) .
“@chrisbrogan: Love being on @JetBlue. In a roomy seat with lots of legroom. The captain on my San Diego flight has a great sense of humor. #icanhasaycj?”
This got me thinking. People have always been influenced by other people’s opinions, asked for or not. Now in the age of mass social opinion, is that influence still there?
I say hell yeah it does! Even though he isn’t trying to sell me a seat on that plane, I’m sure as hell going too see if I can take @jetblue next time I fly.
Why do you think that is?
Without going into a definition resembling a college thesis, it comes down to trusting other people’s judgment. Whether its an ad on TV or somone who travels a ridiculous amount of airlines, deep down we trust that person. We believe they know what they are talking about.
He flies A LOT more than I do. He has probably been in the air enough to know each and every employee by name. Hell, he can probably check in via Twitter DM. I would have to say if he tells me @jetblue is comfy and good to fly, I value that advice.
We may not realize it, but we are bombarded with little ads everyday through the social media sites we visit every day.
How does this affect your daily choices?
