The Power Of Social Media Fundraising
Last night I got to be a part of something pretty cool. 210 people (at the time I am writing this) contributed a few dollars each to help out a family in need.
Jamie’s Medical Fund was organized by Kenneth Burbary (@kenburbary). He along with the help of Chris Brogan.com (@chrisbrogan) and Scott Monte.com (@scottmonty), pushed past the goal in a matter of hours instead of days or weeks.
These guys didn’t have to take time from the projects they are working on. People didn’t have to help a complete stranger.
The thing is… a bunch of people came together and helped. That’s good karma in my book. People who contributed probably won’t miss a couple morning lattes or brown baggin’ it for lunch, but the family who is receiving the donation will be unbelievably thankful.
Social media isn’t just a toy or something to kill time while you are bored at work; it can change lives.
