23 Excuses NOT to Use Twitter

23excises-introI’m sure you get asked all the time, “Do you use Twitter?”. Are you running out of excuses why you don’t take the plunge into any form of social media? Below are some good excuses to help you get by for a little while longer.

Make sure you either read all the way to the bottom (or at least skip to the end) to see the whole point of this post.

1. i don’t like up to the second news

With all of the “real time” news coming through Twitter it can be hard to keep up. It is far easier to let the radio, network news and newspapers choose what they feel is important to me

2. i don’t want to meet new people

Being super popular in real life (like I am) leaves little room for more friends. Why would you want to spend time talking to people online if you may never meet them in person?

3. i don’t want to like pop culture

I am more into the past. I like the Wall Street Journal, classic novels and medical journals. I have no interest in American icons pass away or what movies my peers like. I am MUCH too cultured for that sort of thing.

4. i don’t think social sites will last

Social sites like Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin will never stand the test of time. The human species are NOT  social creatures. We as a whole prefer to keep our lives, feelings and day-to-day happenings to ourselves.

5. i don’t like to make concise statements

I have too much to say and no reason to spit it out in 140 character bursts. Everyone knows the mark of a truly intelligent person is how much they have to say, not the quality of what they say. I mean look at politician and lawyers.

6. i have no urge to network with like minded people

What could possible get from people who have the same interests as I do? Wouldn’t I want to talk to people with interests who oppose mine?

7. wtf is twitter?

I have heard people talk about it, but I don’t have time to learn something new. I’ll just learn the next new thing when it comes around.

8. i just figured out how to “google” something. baby steps my man!

This technology thing moves way too fast. I don’t see how you all of you do so much on your computers and the internet, dial up is so slow.

9. I can’t figure out how to text message, how can I update twitter from my phone?

I have a device for each method of communication. I talk on the phone and email from my computer.

10. i don’t have a 12 year old to show me how to use it.

How do they figure all this stuff out?

11. people don’t find me interesting in real life, twitter would be no different, right?

Why would anyone want to hear about my day? My family and friends hardly talk to me, why would any stranger find my life or opinion interesting?

12. i don’t like large crowds

I like intimate candle lit gatherings. Social sites are too crowded and noisy.

13. it seems to simple. how can it be useful?

How can anyone gain any insight from 140 characters?

15. its a fad

Right when I figure out how to use it, something else will become “the new thing” and I will have to learn that.

16. i can’t play mafia wars on twitter

I use social sites for the applications and games, not for meeting people and keeping in touch.

17. i can’t read

I use other sites like Facebook to look at the pictures people post.

18. i follow too many people, how can i possibly keep up?

I follow too many people. I feel bad they follow me and I don’t follow them back. I don’t want to be rude.

19. i don’t get the slang.

I was raised to use proper grammar and spelling. I have no idea what these people are talking about.

20. wtf is a hashtag?

Why are there hash marks with abbreviations after them?

21. i like to get my news from creditable sources

The TV and radio news are far more credible. They have people who’s sole job is to tell me what breaking and important news worthy information is out there.

22. i have a real social life

People who use those sites don’t have friends off line. I like to meet people and talk face-to-face.

23. it is easier to find people on facebook

I can type in a person’s name and Facebook will find them for me. Twitter doesn’t do that.

These are actual questions I have heard pretty recently. I have been scanning Twitter, talking to friends and family to see what people are asking. The whole reason I put all of these on here is, I am going to make a post for the bulk of them explaining how
